Winner's Interview - Victoria Coiana

Please introduce yourself as an artist?

Even if I sometimes make portraits or still life, I mainly represent landscapes. I want to bring a little serenity through my works, and it is especially in Nature that I find it.

What is your medium and why did you choose it?

I chose watercolour. First of all because I like the transparency and the strength that it allows me to put into my paintings. Secondly, as I don't have a studio and watercolour dries quickly, it's more practical for me.

What was the inspiration behind this work?

Always nature...

While going for a walk, I was amazed by the resilience of these little flowers which are “stronger” than winter and the cold.

If you could buy an artwork by another artist, which one would it be and why?

I choose Bernard Völlmy without a doubt. He was the one who introduced me to watercolour. And I am grateful to him. I have already purchased several of his paintings.

Recently, he introduced me to the work of Blanche Odin and if I could, I would happily buy one of her works... This woman watercolorist inspires me with the power of her watercolours, which was not common in her time.
